Russia welcomes Barbados’s initiative on host country-led consultations complementing the formal preparatory process for UNCTAD-15. We hope that such informal consultations will help maintain the momentum and raise awareness at the Ambassadorial level. Russia appreciates the efforts of Barbados as a host country and would like to reiterate our support for holding the UNCTAD-15 at a high political level in а face-to-face format. The Russian delegation considers the whole preparatory process as a valuable opportunity to demonstrate solidarity, good will and common desire to make UNCTAD stronger and equip the Organization with powerful tools it needs to respond to the current and emerging challenges.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, Nowadays transport industries of all countries in the world face an unprecedented challenge – the necessity to meet the needs of the economy and society in transport services, as well as to ensure the safety of passengers and transport workers in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Transport must continue to function, because it provides the necessary economic links as well as the need for movement under restrictions. On 29 May the Heads of Governments of the Commonwealth of Independent States adopted a Statement on the spread of a new coronavirus infection. The document outlines the adoption of joint effective measures to eliminate the threat of COVID-19, as well as the exchange of countries’ experience in implementing preventive measures against pandemics.

Russian antimonopoly body and the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) will hold discussions of the Toolkit with competition authorities from different countries around the world On 20 September 2017, Head of the Federal Antimonopoly Service Igor Artemiev and Head of UNCTAD’s Competition Policy and Consumer Protection Branch, Teresa Moreiraheld talks during the Competition Week in Russia organized in Veliky Novgorod. With active backing by UNCTAD Secretariat, the FAS initiative to draft the Toolkit for international cooperation between competition authorities to counter restrictive business practices of transnational corporations and violations of the competition rules was supported at the 16th session of UNCTAD Intergovernmental Group of Experts on law and policy in Geneva.
UNCTAD forms a Discussion Group on international cooperation between competition authorities
14-07-2017 | 15:45 The Group is a response to FAS initiative on drafting an international Toolkit to counter restrictive business practices of large corporations and cross-border violations of competition The 16th session of the Intergovernmental Group of Experts on competition law and policy(IGE) UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) ended on 7 July 2017 in Geneva (Switzerland). A decision was made to UNCTAD Discussion Group on international cooperation between competition authorities to reinforce Section F of the Set of Multilaterally Agreed Equitable Principles and Rules for the Control of Restrictive Business Practices (UN Competition Set). The Discussion Group is a response to FAS initiative on drafting an international Toolkit to counter restrictive business practices of large corporations and cross-border violations of competition. The draft Toolkit was presented by Head of FAS Igor Artemiev at IGE UNCTAD session on international cooperation on 6 July 2017. The initiative was supported by delegations representing a lot of countries.
