On November 29, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva, Alexey Borodavkin and UN Assistant Secretary-General, Executive Director of the UNITAR Nikhil Seth signed an Agreement on funding the Institute’s budget by the Russian Federation’s voluntary contribution in the amount of 200 000 US dollars annually for the period from 2016 to 2020.

UNITAR was established in 1965 as an autonomous United Nations body for the purpose of enhancing the effectiveness of the Organization by the relevant staff training in the spheres of multilateral diplomacy and international cooperation and conducting scientific research.

The Russian contribution will be used to organize with the participation of UNITAR the international training courses to deepen the skills of government officials from CIS and other countries at the MGIMO-University MFA Russia.

After the signing ceremony an informal exchange of views took place between the Russian diplomats and UNITAR representatives during which the commitment for further constructive cooperation between the Russian Federation and the leading educational United Nations institution has been reaffirmed.
